Summer Traditions on Moosehead Lake
One of the best things about running a company as a family, we're never low on time together. We started LUX BOX with the primary goal of creating a true work/life balance. We are so grateful to run a successful business and still make it home in time for dinner. Summer is our favorite season to take a pause and get back to our roots. Every year, four generations of relatives come together in Rockwood, Maine. This has been a haven not only for us, but for extended relatives and family friends throughout the years. With so many people in and out, time goes by fast. But we always find ways to wind down and connect as a family.
Morning walks on Lake Street are a ritual we adore. After a big breakfast, everyone gets ready with bikes, scooters, and strollers to get some fresh air. We look like a parade, with all our gear and revelry! We've been taking the same lakeside path since Chloe and Olivia were children, stopping for freezer pops at Mamie Anita's home along the way. And now that memory has come full circle, as we bring our own little ones on the very same walk. Talk about nostalgia!
When you vacation on a lake, it's difficult to find reasons NOT to be on the water. Moosehead has so many state camp sites on its shores, ideal for a family picnic. We love searching for the best spot to build a fire and crack open the rosé! Everyone gathers for hours eating, swimming and playing games. It's the quintessential summer day. The cherry on top is watching our babies cozily nap on the way home; proof of a successful afternoon.
But one of our most unique traditions is an outdoor movie night! We try to host at least once a summer and it's always a hit. We gather just before dark with snacks and cocktails. The popcorn machine comes out, along with an impressive assortment of candy. Everyone arrives with pillows and blankets; one year, a cousin even brought a mattress! Choosing a movie that appeals to all ages can be challenging, but we never cease to land on something fun. Our favorite so far: Disney's Swiss Family Robinson. An epic classic, enjoyed by all!
It's such a blessing to see everyone snuggled together under the stars. Moments like these are what we look forward to all year. And we are able to enjoy it thanks to the environment we created at LUX BOX. Everyone's life comes first, for us and our staff. It's the philosophy by which we live and will continue to pursue. Our business is our passion, but our family is our heart.
